WELCOME
FROM THE MARLIN ELEMENTARY PTO
On behalf of the Marlin Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), I would like to welcome your family for the 2008-2009 school year. We are looking forward to another exciting year and invite each of you to attend our PTO meeting and become involved in your child’s school. We hope you embrace the strong sense of community that our Marlin families provide.
The PTO is an organization of parents and teachers who are committed to the educational goals of our school. Membership is automatic for all parents and teachers at Marlin Elementary and there are no membership dues. The role of our PTO is to promote the educational programs of our school. This is done by supporting the educational staff and physical facilities of our school through various fundraising events such as our Spring Carnival. PTO also promotes a strong sense of community and encourages parent involvement.
To keep parents informed, the PTO sends home flyers and an occasional newsletter. PTO correspondence is always sent home on canary yellow colored paper. Please watch your child’s folder for this information, sometimes a response is needed from parents.
Our PTO relies entirely upon volunteers and we need as much help as possible. It is a great way to become involved at school and meet your fellow parents. We recognize that everyone has a limited amount of time and energy so there are various flexible opportunities. Parents are needed to help in the computer lab, classrooms, and playground. We also hold a carnival each spring and rely upon parent involvement to make it successful
If you have any questions, concerns, or information for the PTO please contact a board member or come to a PTO meeting. Remember our meetings are always open and you are encouraged to attend. We welcome all ideas and suggestions. Again, welcome to Marlin Elementary!

Do you shop at Marsh?
With the Marsh Fresh Ideas for Education program you can help Marlin while doing your grocery shopping. It’s very easy! Sign-up for a Fresh Idea Card at any Marsh Supermarket, or if you already have a Fresh Card just follow these simple steps.
Simple as that! Then when you shop at any Marsh Supermarket and have your fresh idea card scanned, your purchases will automatically accumulate points for Marlin. If you are not a computer person, you should be able to go into any Marsh supermarket with the school code and they can put your number in for you. This is new this year, so please HELP us out.
Do you shop at Kroger?
Marlin families have Kroger cards, that can help our school. These cards are already marked with Marlin’s name. We just want to remind you that these cards can be reloaded at any time. You just need to visit the service desk at any Kroger Store before doing your shopping. Then use your card at the check-out. Marlin will then get 5% of your purchase. This means that Kroger will pay our organization $250 for every $5,000 spent! Every little bit HELPS!
Support Marlin Skate Night
Western Skateland gives us the opportunity to skate, and raise money for our school. If we have 75 skaters, the school receives $1.25 back for each skater. It’s fun for the whole family.

For supporting the PTO and Marlin
Save those Labels!
~ Campbell’s Labels for Education ~
Did your family take goldfish to the pool this summer or possibly you had a V8? Did you know that the labels off those products can be saved and turned into the school for points! For each Campbell’s label collected our school earns points for educational materials. Maybe you can put a shoe book in the kitchen and collect these labels along with others. Keep an eye on all the products you use, you never know when you might be able to use the label. There will be a box located in the lobby of the school for label collection.
~ Box Tops for Education ~
Box tops have helped America’s school earn over $200 million in the past 11 years. Our school can earn up to $60,000 in a year. You can help in three different ways:
1) Clip Box Tops from your favorite products.
Look for the $.10 Box Tops coupons on
hundreds of your favorite products from
General Mills. Included in this packet is a
list of all the products you can find box tops on.
2) Shop at your favorite online stores. At the Box Tops marketplace, you can shop at over 60 online stores including JcPenny and Lands End. A portion of every qualifying purchase is donated to your school – all at no additional cost to you!
3) Coming in September! You’ll be able to earn cash for your school just by buying the books that you love! When you begin your shopping at Box Tops Reading Room, you’ll earn up to 6% on purchases made online at Barnes & Noble.
~ Tyson Chicken Labels ~
We are taking part in the Tyson Project A+. Through this project we can raise as much as $12,000 for our school this year. Each label that we collect is worth .24 cents for our school. The money we raise can go towards buying books, making improvements to our school, or anything else we want. If you would like more information about this project visit http://ProjectAPlus.tyson.com, a list of all Tyson products that have labels is also included in this packet.
