Martin Luther King Jr. Biography





    Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most famous people in the U.S.A. He was born in Atlanta GA. on January 5, 1929. His Grandpa, was Rev. A. D. Williams, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist church. Martin Luther King Jr. Grew up in Montgomery, Alabama.

    5 days after Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man, King was elected president of the newly formed Montgomery Improvement Association. That was the start to freedom for black people. 1956 was king's good year. He earned national prominence, because he had oratorical skills and personal courage. In 1956 King and other black ministers founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Martin luther King Jr. was the president of SCLC. That's what made him so famous. White people were so mad at him they bombed his house, but he survived.

January 5, 1929- Martin Luther King Jr. is born.

June 18, 1953- King marries Coretta Scott in Marion, Alabama.

December 1956-  The United States Supreme Court desereguared Montgomery Buses, because of Rosa Parks .

1958- King published a book called Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story.

August 28, 1963- King attracts More than 250,000 protesters with the I Have a Dream speech.

1964- King Won the Nobel Peace Prize, and was the man of the year for Time magizine.
